ISA is a
non-profit network of clubs, groups, and organizations from
several countries, which are practicing ISA sport
disciplines on national level and participate occasionally
on ISA annual events. We are mostly SPORT organization and
on international level we are focused only on competitions.
Shinbudo is not a new martial art. It is simply a NEW
CONCEPT of training and competing in modern martial arts and sports
of Japanese origin. "SHIN" in our Japanese kanji stands for
"NEW", and "Shinbudo" literally means "New martial ways",
or, if you prefer, "New combat sports". Our Nippon kempo is
a newer form of older karate, our "Judo grappling" is a
mixture of classical Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, our
Jujutsu kata competitions are new simplified form of the
"Duo system" practiced in JJIF, and our Sport kenjutsu is a
derivative of Sport chanbara, kendo and kobudo competitions.
Initial sport
formats in ISA were Mix Kumite, special fighting "triathlon"
for kids, Jujutsu kata and Sport kenjutsu (also known as
Chanbara or "Combat kenjutsu"). Meanwhile, our "Mix kumite"
fighters have evolved and became ready for more specialized
disciplines, such as full-contact karate with armors ("Bogu
karate"), Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, grappling, etc. Recognizing
this change, we have adopted new disciplines, including
NIPPON KEMPO and "Freestyle JUDO" (more often we call it
"Judo grappling"). Nowadays, this is what you can see on ISA
tournaments:

All competition
formats in ISA are safe and simple. This is base for our
main principle, which we call the "KISS" principle ("Keep It
Safe & Simple").
ISA does not serve as a governing body for any separate
martial art or sport. All of the sports that we practice
have larger international parent federations. Still, we are
the only ones who provide international events with all
these sports included. In addition, our rules may vary from
strict rules of other federations, particularly when it
comes to types of equipment, allowed techniques, number of
categories etc.
New logo of ISA is introduced
by the end of 2011. It has a "Mitsu tomoe" ("triple
Yin-Yang") sign, which symbolizes three sport areas that we
practice: Safe fights within the rules of Nippon kempo or
freestyle Judo, self-defense competitions (Jujutsu Kata) and
weapon fights (Sport kenjutsu). also, there are other
meanings of this "trinity" symbol, which can be adhered to
ISA activities and our martial arts.
